PMO asks offices to maintain new infra
The Prime Minister’s Office on Monday directed authorities to protect infrastructure such as roads, solar lights, plants and green spaces developed and maintained in the CapitalA meeting on Monday discussed the poor management and deteriorating condition of the new infrastructure developed for the regional meet after concerns were raised about their preservation from several quarters. Many solar lights installed on the Maitighar-Tinkune road section have stopped functioning due to the accumulation of dust on the panels while the new saplings planted for greening the roads have started drying up in the lack of watering.
The meeting coordinated by Shanta Raj Subedi, secretary at the PMO, asked officials to regularly water, nurture and protect the plants and flowers planted to beautify the city and maintain the solar lights urgently.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is responsible for looking after the overall greenery project along with Agricultural Development Bank and Nepal Telecom that have committed to maintain the plants on the Tinkune-Maitighar stretch. The Nepal Electricity Authority is charged with operating and maintaining street lights.
The Department of Roads is responsible for completing the construction of expanded roads.
Bhai Kaji Tiwari, deputy commissioner at the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority that handles the city beautification project, agrees that there is lack of coordination among the authorities. Nepal Telecom that agreed to support in watering the plants has not done it for four weeks. Sweepers, who regularly cleaned the streets during the summit, are not seen on the streets now.
