UCPN (M)-led alliance boycotts CA meet
Lawmakers from the alliance of opposition parties led by UCPN (Maoist) did not show up during the full meeting of Constitution Assembly (CA) on TuesdayEkantipur Report
Lawmakers from the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML decided to move ahead with the voting process after the final attempt of Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (PDCC) failed to forge consensus among the political parties.
The lawmakers associated with the opposition alliance said that they boycotted the meeting as consensus could not be forged on their agendas.
PDCC Chairman Baburam Bhattarai was absent during today’s CA meet. However, he had submitted the disagreement report to the CA Chairman Subas Nembang at his office in Singha Durbar.
“We attempted maximum effort to forge consensus, but of no avail,” he said while submitting the report. He boycotted the meeting following the protest campaign of his party-led alliance. PDCC’s senior member and RPP leader Surya Bahadur Thapa had tabled the report at CA after Bhattarai refused to show up at the meet.
The CA meeting on January 4 had decided to send back the report to PDCC directing it to submit the report with consent or dissent on all contentious issues of new constitution to the full House before 11am on January 13.
As the PDCC failed to forge consensus during its extended deadline for four days, it decided to submit its report without any changes to the full House meeting today.
