NC, UML trying to bypass previous pacts: Dahal
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the ruling parties were trying to bypass the previous pacts and sentiments of the interim constitution in constitution drafting processEkantipur Report
Speaking at a press meet organised by Revolutionary Journalists Association in Pokhara on Tuesday, Dahal said that new constitution should be drafted as per the consensus among the parties. “Whatever the maths are regarding the statute through CA, new constitution should be drafted in accordance to consensus and the past pacts. This is the international practice,” he said.
He claimed that the current issues of federalism, ethnic-identity, regional rights were the results of the long struggle waged by his party. Dahal said moving ahead in majority basis because of numerical advantage and treating the CA like a regular house session was a mistake done by the ruling parties.
Dahal, on another context, said that the ruling parties should take necessary steps and pave the path for talks and consensus. “Consensus will not be possible if they close the doors and invite for talks,” he said. Dahal also said that he, as a leader of opposition party, was in regular contact with the prime minister.
