Janakpur win title
Region No 7 Janakpur defeated Region No 9 Dhangadi by 10 runs to claim the Wai Wai U-16 Girls’ Inter-school National Cricket Tournament title at the Hariwan grounds here on Wednesday.Electing to bat first in what turned out to be a low scoring championship clash, Janakpur made 115-6 in their allotted 20 overs with Mamta Chaudhary rescuing them with a gritty knock.
Dhangadi went close before being restricted to 105-4 in quote of overs. Bindu Rawal top scored for Dhangadi making a run-a-ball 42 not out hitting five boundaries.
Kabita Joshi played a 13-ball cameo of 29 runs with three hits to the fence, while Chandani Shaha was next best scorer for Dhangadi with 10 runs. Karishma Dhamala picked up 2-9 from her four-over spell while Mamta also picked up one wicket.
Earlier, Mamta contributed an all-important 44 off 39 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and a six. Anuradha Chaudhary (15), Aarati Chaudhary (12) and Sonu Magar (11) were the other batswomen to make runs in double figures.
Kavita Kunwar picked up 2-11 from four overs for Dhangadi. Poonam Parswan and Menuka Kunar also had one scalp apiece. Mamta was named player-of-the-final.
