TIA to remain shut till 10 am on Saturday
The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) authority has extended the shutdown of international flight operations till 10 am on Saturday.Ekantipur Report
At a press conference organised at the TIA, Director General at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Ratish Chandra Lal Suman informed that flight operations won't resume until 10 am on Saturday as the efforts to move the plane from the current position is in progress and like to take more time.
He said the TIA would provide round-the-clock service for international flights for three days once the runway is cleared.
The technical team from India has been working to remove the Turkish aircraft from the runway.
The airport was forced to cancel all flights due to the runway incursion caused by the Turkish Airlines. The shutdown of only international airport of Nepal has left thousands of passengers stranded.
Meanwhile, the Indian technical team has lifted the front portion of Turkish Airlines plane with the help of lifting airbag, TIA Chief Birendra Prasad Shrestha said. He said all front wheels of the plane will be changed today. The grassy land in between the runways broken up by the aircraft has been smoothened with gravel and sand, he said.
The Indian team of technicians, who arrived here with necessary kit, is expected to complete the clearance works by tomorrow.
The international flights would resume only after the removal of plane from the runway, TIA officials said.
A team of aircraft technicians of Indian Air Service had arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday to remove the stranded plane of Turkish Airlines.
