CIAA files corruption case against 24 NTB officials
The CIAA on Friday filed a charge sheet at the Special Court against 23 employees associated with the Nepal Tourism Board including two former government secretaries and one incumbent.They have been accused of embezzling Rs 346 million by abusing authority. The CIAA shared information about this through a press meet in the Capital on Friday.
The case filed under the Corruption Prevention Act-2059 BS has demanded Rs 816 million (that includes the amount the accused were charged with embezzling and fine) as the penalty from the accused, according CIAA Spokesperson Begendra Raj Sharma Poudel.
They have been charged with indulging in corruption under different headings including submitting fake bills of office expenditures, causing additional burden to the Board of Directors and reciving the payment bill of beverage from the Board.
The CIAA went for a ten-month long investigation into the alleged financial irregularities by NTB officials and came out with these findings.
Those facing the CIAA charges are NTB Officiating CEO Subash Nirola, former Executive Chief Prachandaman Shrestha, Anil Kumar Das, Director Nandini Lahe Thapa, senior director Aditya Baral, director Hikmat Singh Air, director Kashiraj Bhandari, manager Dhruba Kumar Rai, senior manager Leela Bahadur Baniya, senior manager Diwakar Bikram Rana and manager Laxman Gautam.
Similarly, the charge sheet includes NTB Executive Committee the then Chairman and former Secretary Sushil Ghimire, the then member and Secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Sharad Chandra Poudel, tourism entrepreneurs Megh Bahadur Pandey, Tikaram Sapkota, Pamphadevi Dhamala, Dilli Prasad Siwakoti, Rewat Bahadur Thapa, Dhruba Narayan Shrestha, Furgelje Sherpa, Mahendra Khanal, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Director General Ratischandra Lal Suman, the then invitee member and secretary Ranjan Krishna Aryal .
Of the amount, the CIAA has sought from the accused in recovery, Rs 700 million has been demanded from the NTB Chief and employees alone. RSS
