PMO directive to expedite road expansion projects
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Thursday directed the concerned authorities to work towards the completion of the ongoing road expansion project in Kathmandu valley.The PMO has said instructed the authorities to complete the overall road expansion works, including the installation of water pipeline for Mealamchi Water Supply Project, within this fiscal year. It has also directed the Nepal Telecom and the Nepal Electricity Authority to cooperate with the Department of Road in the road expansion project by relocating the utility poles and wires where needed within a week.
Similarly, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has been told to reconstruct the footpaths that were dug up in the process of water main installation. Delay in the construction of demolished road, largely owing to the lack of cooperation among the concerned authorities, has caused inconvenience to public, said Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal.
Santa Raj Subedi, secretary of PMO, said a panel led by regional road director has been formed to oversee the road-related works in coordination with concerned stakeholders.
The PMO has also requested the Ministry of Urban Development to compensate the house owners whose houses were demolished during road expansion.
