Ex PM Thapa cremated with state honours at Aryaghat
Former Prime Minister and Constituent Assembly member Surya Bahadur Thapa was cremated according to Hindu tradition and with state honours at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu on Friday.Ekantipur Report
Thapa's son Sunil Bahadur Thapa, who is also Minister for Commerce and Supplies, lit the funeral pyre.
Earlier, Rastriya Prajatantra Party's President Pashupati Shumsher Rana and leader Dipak Bohara draped the RPP party flag over Thapa's body. Thapa was the former chairman of the party.
The five-time Prime Minister of Nepal was accorded a guard of honour by a contingent of Nepali Army that also played the requiem.
Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Democratic) Bijaya Kumar Gachchadar, NC leaders Arjun Narsingh KC and Prakash Sharan Mahat, RPP leaders and cadres and members of the general public were present at Aryaghat during the final rites.
Leader Thapa had passed away on Wednesday night in course of treatment at a private hospital in New Delhi of India.
