The police have found vehicles, with 8-10 passenger capacity, charging passengers up to Rs 25,000 for 145 kms journey along the Koteshwor-Sindhulimadi road section.
According to Police Inspector Rajendra Thapa, during the check conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday alone, about Rs 500,000 of excess fare have been returned from the vehicle operators to passengers. However, people have been paying high amounts in fare to travel out of Kathmandu in reserved vehicles.
Likewise, Rameshwor Pandey of the Traffic Police informed that taxis operating on the 160 km-long Banepa-Bardibas highway have been charging fares up to Rs 20,000.
On Tuesday alone at least 15,000 vehicles left for eastern tarai through BP highway.
