FM Mahat urges int'l community for substantial financial resources
Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat has urged the international community to further strengthen the development partnership at the current national crisis acknowledging their key role in NepalAddressing the Partnership with Nepal Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan on Sunday, Minister Mahat noted that Nepal is in need of technical advice, global know-how and importantly substantial financial resources from the international community to propel at the moment.
The government and Nepali people are committed towards rebuilding the country overcoming the current crisis, he said, adding that the future reconstruction would be better.
"We will come out of this crisis stronger. But to support our resolve we will need the goodwill of our development partners, which has been continued for the past six decades in the modern development history of Nepal", said Mahat.
The Minister shared that Nepal government has decided to set up the National Reconstruction Fund of US $2 billion initially where the Government is earmarking US$200 million from its own resources for immediate rebuilding of vital lost infrastructures, individual homes and heritage sites.
Saying that Nepal needs additional US$500 million for immediate humanitarian assistance during the rescue and relief phases, he said detailed assessments of loss and damage and financing needs for reconstruction are being done.
The government has immediately classified the post-earthquake challenge into phases of rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. RSS
