PM visits earthquake- ravaged Sindhupalchok

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala Monday visited the earthquake-ravaged Sindhupalchok district on Monday.

The Prime Minister reached Listikot, the remote part in the district and acquired information about the search, rescue and relief efforts being undertaken by the Nepali Army there.

It may be noted that Sindhupalchowk was worst hit by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that jolted the country on April 25. So far the death toll from the disaster has passed seven thousand with around 2,800 bodies retrieved from collapsed houses in the district alone.

Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana accompanied the Prime Minister during the visit, the NA said.

Meanwhile, the NA is busy carrying out search, rescue and relief works in 284 VDCs of 14 districts affected by the deadly earthquake.

A body of the disaster victim was evacuated from the rubble at Gongabu area today. A joint team of NA, the Armed Police Force and Korean Army pulled the body from the rubble.

So far the NA has supplied 8,885 kilogrammes of foodstuff and other relief goods for the earthquake survivors in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Dhading and Gorkha district.

Similarly, 39 Nepali and 11 foreigners left stranded after the disaster were rescued today by the NA from Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Dhading. The NA continued removing of debris in Balaju and Banasthali area today too and supplied drinking water at 36 locations from 15 tankers.

Meanwhile, relief goods along with a rescue team have arrived here today from China and France.
