Vehicular movement along the rural road linking the model tourist village of Barpak to the district headquarters was obstructed owing to landslides triggered by the quake in several places.

Vehicular transportation resumed on Thursday as Nepal Army (NA) cleared the debris of more than two dozen landslides on the track. A NA team reached the epicentre on a jeep on Thursday for rescue and relief work. According to the security agencies, the resumption of the transportation in the worst-hit area would greatly ease the rescue, relief and recovery works in the district.

Around 100 NA personnel were deployed to clear the road ravaged by the Great Earthquake. Chhepetar-Bhaluswanra-Barpak Road Project also used some dozers to clear the rural road badly damaged along Baluwa-Mandre stretch.

Meanwhile, landslides triggered by continuous aftershocks have claimed three lives so far, while blocking the road in various places. The dirt road has suffered huge cracks in some places, especially at Mandre in Barpak VDC. Local people in Barpak, Laprak and Gumda were adversely affected as they could not transport essential commodities with the disruption of transportation along the road stretch.

After vehicular transportation resumed along the road section, some vehicles reached Barpak carrying relief materials, while the vehicles trapped in the village started returning.

“More than fifty percent problem faced by the people of Barpak have been solved after the village was reconnected with the road network. Vehicles have now started transporting relief materials stored in Baluwa,” said Jit Ghale of Barpak.
