Modi to arrive ‘if schedule permits’
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Thursday telephoned his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to extend invitation to the donors Conference that is being held in Kathmandu on June 25.According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Koirala requested Modi to participate in the donors conference and address the gathering as well.
In response, Modi told Koirala that he would participate in the conference if his schedule permits. In any case, the Indian prime minister said, his government will send a high ministerial delegation to the conference, the statement said.
Modi reiterated India’s “unwavering and sustained support to Nepal” in rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, guided by the preference and priorities of the government of Nepal.
During the conversation, Koirala also appraised Modi on the recent political developments in Nepal. He also congratulated the Indian prime minister on the latter’s successful visit to Bangladesh, describing it as yet another example of “neighbours first policy” adopted by the Modi government. Koirala welcomed the agreement signed in Dhaka for sub-regional connectivity between Bhutan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal.
Modi also conveyed his best wishes for the successful conclusion of the peace process and adoption of a new constitution.
He reiterated that India’s only desire was success, peace and progress of the people of Nepal.
