House panel to look into ‘secessionist’ remarks

A meeting of the committee formed the sub-committee which includes Sanjay Guatam, Shyam Dhakal, Hridaya Ram Thani, Dharmendra Sah Teli, Shiva Lal Thapa and Mahendra Bahadur Shahi to investigate into the matter. It also has been tasked to investigate the controversial announcement of United Madhesi Front (UMF) to provide Rs 5 million to the family of protesters who die while staging against state delineation.
The legislature parliament had directed the SAC to probe into the matter.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam, following the ruling from the Parliament, had tabled the written copy of the decision of UMF and the audio visual recording of controversial remarks of Yadav and Singh.
Meanwhile, Gautam and Singh had a hot debate in the meeting after Singh claimed that the government had deployed over 90 percent of Armed Police Force (APF) in Tarai to suppress Madhesi people. Following the comment, Gautam asked chairman of SAC Dil Bahadur Gharti to keep Singh in discipline. He claimed that out of 36,000 APF personnel only 9,900 are in Tarai including those deployed in custom security.
“The number is more in Hills than in Tarai,” said Gautam. “Everyone should stop making irresponsible comments.”
In the meeting, NC lawmaker Ram Krishna Yadav, CPN-UML lawmaker Yagya Raj Sunuwar and Chairman of Rastriya Janamorcha Chitra Bahadur KC demanded action against all those who made ‘secessionist’ remarks in public forum.
