The Cabinet decision is not in line with the 11-point agreement which, in its first point, proposes formation of Health Profession Education Commission through the first Cabinet meeting after the deal.
Dr KC, who had been staging indefinite hunger strike since Aug 24 demanding reforms in the country’s medical sector, broke his fast on Sunday after an 11-point deal with the government.
Earlier the Cabinet had tasked the same committee to implement the Health Profession Education Policy drafted by a committee led by former TU vice-chancellor Kedar Bhakta Mathema. However, the committee took around a month just to unveil the report. According to Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit, the report was forwarded to the committee to set background for its implementation.
“The Cabinet will take final step in implementation after the committee forwards the report,” he said. Meanwhile, Mathema said that he was surprised by the decision.
The Cabinet also promoted two joint secretaries from Law Service, Kamal Sali Ghimire and Mahesh Sharma to the post of secretaries.
Ghimire will be the new secretary at the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons while Sharma will take the position at the Prime Minister’s Office. The meeting also finalised the name of 40 civil servants who will be honoured on the occasion of the Civil Servant Day.
