Deepak Rai scored a brace while Rupesh KC, Bishal Rai, Zikahe Leonce Dodoz and Anil Gurung added one goal each for MMC. KC opened the floodgates by giving MMC the 27th minute lead before Bishal added to the tally 10 minutes later. Dodoz then flicked in a header to score the third in the first half injury time. MMC resumed from where they left after the interval as Gurung made it 4-0 in the 55th minute. Deepak completed the rout scoring twice—the first in the 63rd minute and second in the stoppage time.
Elated MMC coach Raju Kaji Shakya said he had not anticipated such a big-margin victory. “My boys grabbed almost all the chances that came their way,” said Shakya. Shakya’s Far West counterpart Kiran Shrestha blamed the defeat to the absence of key players. “Some of our key players are sick and a few others suspended,” added Shrestha. MMC climbed to fourth in the standings with 16 points from nine game, while Far West are sixth with 14 points from 12 matches.
Binod Karki scored a hat-trick as Nepal Police Club (NPC) eased to a 4-1 win over Lumbini Football Club in the second match held at Anfa Complex. Karki opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, added his second in the 45th before completing treble in the 54th minute. In between, Bharat Shah also netted a goal for NPC in the first half injury time. Lumbini reduced the deficit thanks to an own goal from Ritesh Thapa, whose back pass in crawled into his own goal.
The emphatic victory pleased the injury-hit NPC coach Birat Krishna Shrestha. Lumbini coach Yam Gurung said lack of coordination cost them the match. NPC remain on seventh with 12 points from 10 games, while Lumbini are eighth with 8 points from 12 games.
In another game held at the Laxminagar Stadium in Morang, Santosh Sahukhala scored a hat-trick as Three Star rallied for a 4-1 win over Morang. Three Star played a catching game after Tek Bahadur Limbu put Morang ahead in the 28th minute. But Olawale Afeez levelled the scores in the first half injury time before Sahukhala stole the show in the second half.
Sahukhala opened his account in the 77th minute before going on to score in the 77th and another deep into the stoppage time. The victory meant Three Star replaced Jhapa on top of the standings with 19 points from 10 games. Jhapa are second with 18 points from 11 games.
The game between host Jhapa and Tribhuvan Army Club at the Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium has been postponed due to “unplayable” pitch condition caused by overnight rain. The game will now be played in Suranga instead, said the All Nepal Football Association.
