A Nepali man convicted on charge of murder by a court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is likely to be freed after paying blood money, according to a senior UAE official.

Amar Bahadur Bom, 38, a native of Dhari VDC in Darchula district, is being in a Dubai-based jail for the last 12 years after he was found guilty of murdering an Indian national. In a meeting with Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, US, Foreign Minister of UAE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan told Bom will get amnesty after paying the blood money to the family of the victim.

According to Post representative based in New York, Abdullah assured his Nepali counterpart to initiate the legal procedure as soon as the blood money is paid to the family of the deceased.

Bom had gone to Dubai on December 23, 2003, via Delhi to work as a migrant worker. He was taken by a proprietor of an Indian Marble Company with a promise of a good job. But he was held on the murder of Sarad Setthi, an Indian national, within a month after he had reached Dubai.

Bom was convicted along with three Indians in the murder case that took place at a club in Bur-Dubai. He was working as a private driver for two Indian businessmen.
