Indian national involved in business activities in the district have expressed concerns over India’s undeclared blockade against Nepal.
Wahit Sahin, a fruits trader in Dhangadhi, said Indian government should understand the situation in Nepal. “There are many Indian nationals staying in Nepal,” Sahin said, adding that the blockade has hampered people’s livelihood.
Sahin said many of the Indian nationals do not have their home in India and that if relation between the two country worsens, they will have to return to India.
Another Indian national Bijaya Mandal, a street food vendor, blamed that the Indian government is unable to understand the problems of its own nationals. “India should realise it’s own problems at first,” he said.
Similarly, Rajiv Gupta, who runs a fancy store at the bordering town of Gauriphanta, said the Indian government should resolve the problem soon. “This will affect businesses of India,” he said.
Many market areas in the region, including Gauriphanta, Bangaun, Chandanchauki and Khakraula, are dependent upon Nepali customers.
Likewise, Indian traders in Dhangadhi, Bhajani, Hasuliya and Tikapur, among other towns, said the decision of obstructing the border points is not appropriate.
Indian national Saroj Agrawal said India should improve relations with Nepal as soon as possible. He said the relation between the two countries is not only diplomatic one but is based on traditions and customs.
