The party had organised the gathering to prepare the cadres and leaders for the campaign against “calculated misinterpretation” of the constitution by Madhes-centric parties. “From today onwards, they will prepare programmes at local levels to highlight the progressive agendas included in the new constitution. Party’s senior leaders will also participate in these programmes,” UML spokesperson Yogesh Bhattarai said. The party leadership has instructed its cadres to prepare region-wise programmes in all five development regions. “Before Dashain, we will reach all villages and illusions created against constitution will be cleared,” Bhattarai said.
The campaign, according to him, will be focused on positive aspects ensured by the constitution for Dalit, Janajati, Madhesi, women and marginalised groups.
The UML briefing booklet provides overview of the inclusive nature of the constitution and seeks to explain how the marginalised groups, including Madhesis, have the most to gain from it.
The leaders and cadres to be mobilised across the country will inform the public about progressive provisions included in the new constitution, its positive aspects compared with world’s democratic constitutions and provisions to ensure rights of various ethnic and minority groups.
“The constitution has ensured rights of all classes, communities and regions of Nepal. They were ensured in participation of Madhes-centric parties,” the reads mentions. It also claims the provision to delineate new provinces based on geography and population has ensured 80 seats out of 165 seats for Madhesis in the lower house.
