Madhesi leaders have claimed the bodies belong to the protesters of Madhes-centric parties. However, District Police Office Dhanusha has clarified that the bodies belonged to unidentified persons and that they had been sent for cremation after a post-mortem.
Protesters, who were standing on the road side forming a human chain as part of their protest, had stopped a rickshaw carrying suspicious objects. They were shocked when they saw the bodies, wrapped in clothes. The protesters then held the rickshaw puller and two others who were with him.
Based on the information provided by the three men, the protesters dug up three other bodies. The rickshaw puller, Shyam Sahani, admitted that he had buried the bodies.
Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik (MJF-L) Janakpur Chairman Uma Shankar Aragariya claimed that he saw ten bodies and that most of them belonged to persons who had participated in the Tarai protest.
Superintendent of Police Ganesh Bahadur Thapa said the bodies were sent for the final rites on the banks of Dhudmati River after the post mortem. He said that three other bodies were laid to rest at the same graveyard four days ago.
Superintendent of Janakpur Zonal Hospital Sanjay Thakur confirmed that his hospital had conducted autopsy on the bodies.
