Rauniyar was caught in a clash between police and protesters while covering the Tarai demonstration in Janakpur two months ago.
His camera was smashed in the incident.
To help Rauniyar pursue his passion of telling stories through photography, Madhesi Youth, Code for Nepal, Story South Asia had taken the help of crowdfunding platforms—Life Indiegogo and Fund Dreamer—to raise funds to buy him a new camera. Together, they generated $1,123 which was more than enough to buy a camera.
Apart from raising funds online, Madhesi Youth also raised $188 cash donation while Code for Nepal and Story South Asia reached out to Surabhi Chaudhary of Chaudhary Group who personally donated $420 to Rauniyar’s cause.
“I am thankful to everyone for this support. This gesture has also installed further enthusiasm and courage in me to do my work,” Rauniyar said after receiving the camera. Puru Shah of Madhesi Youth and Ravi Kumar of Code for Nepal said they were proud by the success of their separate campaigns that was initiated for the same cause.
“This was possible only with the love and support shown to Rauniyar by our donors,” said Shah.
