Constitutional council meet ends after Koirala fails to show up

Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha said that the meeting chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli ended inconclusively after main opposition NC failed to partake. He, however, said that the meeting discussed on the applications submitted for the vacant positions of the EC.
There is one vacant position for chief election commissioner and two positions for commissioners ever since former chief election commissioner Nilkantha Upreti and commissioners Ram Bhakta PB Thakur and Dolakh Bahadur Gurung retired.
Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, also member of the council, said that next meeting would decide the appointments in the vacant posts. According to constitutional provisions, the council comprising PM as its chairperson and CJ, Speaker, Chairman of National Assembly, chief of the parliament and leader of main opposition political party as members, is authorised to make appointments to the positions of chief and office bearers of constitutional bodies.RSS
