Leaders of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), who arrived here in New Delhi to inform about the three-month long agitation in Madhes and border blockade, have made it clear that they would not abandon their agitation unless the government comes up with a concrete proposal and result-oriented action plan.
“Today we met Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary Ram Madhav and clarified about Madhesi Morcha’s agitation and position to the party after the government,” Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato told the Post after wrapping up his formal visit of Delhi on Wednesday.
Other two key leaders of SLMM –Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur and Samajbadi Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav—who completed their Delhi visit were scheduled to return to Kathmandu later in the day.
However, leader Mahato and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party Chairman Mahendra Raya Yadav will stay in Delhi for a couple more days for health check up.
“Madhesi Morcha doesn’t agree with the political formula of big three parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist)—and the way it is being publicised as a common proposal,” said Mahato. “We can’t accept the credit agreement to settle the border demarcation within three months as we have been betrayed several times in the past because of such understandings.”
Leader Mahato went on to say that the SLMM, which is driven by the spirit of “now or never”, cannot agree on the paper assurance that the issue of naturalised citizenship through marriage would be possible only after the formulation of federal laws. “It not Delhi who have guided us but we have made it clear to Delhi,” claimed leader Mahato.
Leader Thakur and Yadav attended a function organised by International Assistance Council India today. The programme was attended by former ambassadors to Nepal Shiva Shankar Mukherjee and KV Rajan.
