Eight Indian police officers stationed at Sunauli border point have faced disciplinary action for extorting the Nepali importers bringing goods to Nepal from India.
RK Chaturvedi, deputy inspector general of police at Gorakhpur district in India, recalled the guilty officers to Maharajgunj, the district headquarters, based on the complaint filed by Bharat Nepal Maitri Samaj.
General Secretary of Samaj Anil Kumar Gupta said some employees at Sunauli Customs were also found involved in the case. Their names have been submitted to the customs superintendent with a recommendation to take action against them, Gupta added.
Nepali importers claimed that Indian police and customs employees demand Rs 50, 000 to Rs 100,000 from one cargo.
