Tension flared up in Bara district headquarters Kalaiya on Wenesday after the cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha took to vandalism at district party offices of the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC).

Police fired a warning shot into the air and lobed seven rounds of teargas canisters to take the situation under control. The tension escalated after the participants of a baton rally resorted to vandalism at NC’s district office at Motibagh and CPN-UML’s district office at Pannabagh.

Morcha cadres, who were in thousands, took out a massive baton rally in Bara today. They organised the protest in line with their pre-scheduled central committee plan to press for addressing the demands of Morcha.

The cadres are reported to be equipped with batons, Khukuris and spears. After the rally, Morcha organised a protest assembly calling out cadres to continue the agitations.
