The UN staff observed a minute’s silence at 11:56 am marking the first anniversary of the earthquake. The statement hailed efforts of the government, NGOs and civil society during the quake.
“We would like to commend people of Nepal who responded so selflessly in the immediate aftermath of the quake. They are to be applauded for their resilience and bravery, and deserve to be recognised for their actions, which saved countless lives,” said Craig Sanders, UN Resident Coordinator.
The UN Country Team through the statement expressed their concern about the upcoming monsoon season and the ramifications it could have on the vulnerable quake affected victims. They also expressed desire on working with the Government of Nepal and other development partners on the reconstruction efforts.
