The outcome put APF in pole position to clinch the trophy after going on top of the standings with points from three games. TAC, who also have six points, stay second on head-t0-head record. The result of the last game on Monday between Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Eastern Region will determine the champions.
NPC have three points from two matches, while Eastern Region are at the bottom of the four-team super league.
APF coach Nar Kumar Rai praised his girls’ for their determined game against the Army. “We should have scored a few more goals but for the missed chances,” said the APF coach. Sabitra Bhandari scored both the goals for APF, while Punam Jharga Magar replied for TAC.
Bhandari gave APF the eighth minute lead only for Jharga Magar to equalise in the 29th minute. Bhandari, however, had a last laugh as she scored the winner 70th minute. The victory margin could have been far bigger had not TAC custodian Lila Lamgade made numerous saves.
Army coach Chakra Tamang: “We gave a good fight to one of the best team of the tournament,” said Tamang, adding that the one and only defensive mistake cost them the match allowing Bhandari the space to score the winning goal.
