Earthquake survivors of Khumbu region, also known as Everest region in Solukhumbu district, have started reconstruction works on their own.
Phurte Tamang of Lukla, one of the quake victims, informed that majority of villagers have already reconstructed their quake-ravaged houses.
“Local bodies had collected the data of quake-affected households, but they have failed to pay attention to the plight of the victims,” said Tamang, adding that authorities were yet to provide them with any kind of financial support to build their quake-ravaged houses.
As tourism activities have picked up pace in the Khumbu region a year after the devastating earthquake, the victims here have started building houses in Namche, the district headquarters of Solukhumbu, and other villages.
Most of them have constructed corrugated roofed houses. Aangtendi Sherpa, a Hike for Nepal campaigner, said that Khumbu region is safe for tourists.
“Travellers who come here will take a positive message back home and encourage people to visit Khumbu,” said Sherpa.
The flow of tourists increases in the Khumbu region during two seasons.
The September season is popular among trekkers while mountaineers come here during the April season.
