The move comes as a part of reciprocal agreement between both the countries regarding security of the embassies.
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has so far deployed 10 armed police personnel for the security of Nepali Embassy. The Indian Embassy at Lainchaur, Kathmandu is also guarded by over a dozen personnel of Nepal Police.
“We urged Indian government to give security to Nepali mission here as per the reciprocal provision for diplomatic-level security,” said Counsellor SSP Yadav Raj Khanal, who looks after the security affairs of Nepali Embassy in Delhi.
Security personnel deployed at the embassy are Nepali-speaking people from Sikkim Police of the Battalion. The battalion will guard the embassy’s office and residential buildings.
Earlier, the task of guarding the embassy was assigned to local staffs appointed by the embassy. The embassy is preparing to give retirement schemes to the employees after Nepal government corresponded with it that only 20 staffs could be appointed under local category.
The decision is likely to face hard time for implementation as the Nepali and Indian staffs appointed under local category posses documents that gives them permanent status.
