Sajha Yatayat, which is currently operating 16 large buses in three routes of the valley, is planning to add 30 buses for which it is investing around Rs 100 million.
According to Sajha Yatayat Manager Mahendra Raj Pandeya, the cooperative has reached an agreement with Indian automobile manufacturer Ashok Leyland to purchase the new buses.
“We will be getting these vehicles by mid-August,” said Pandeya.
The 40-seater buses with spacious aisle and high ceiling will have back door as wide as 11 metres through which wheelchairs can easily move in.
The buses are equipped with LCD monitors that will display the route and location.
Officials say after the addition of a fleet of 30 new buses, the problem of waiting for buses for long will be solved. Though the service provided by Sajha Yatayat with 16 buses has been hailed by many, passengers often complain that they have to wait for long for the buses.
Sajha Yatayat and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City have entered into an agreement to run public buses in the valley.
