Transparency International (TI) Nepal, on behalf of the civil society, is to inspect the post-earthquake reconstruction efforts being undertaken in the 14 districts worst hit by the last year's disaster.

The TI Nepal is to monitor the post-reconstruction activities, as its attempts to check quality, to find out whether the disaster survivors are given the grant announced by the government and to listen to their possible complaints, according to its Executive Director Ashish Thapa.

It may be noted that the European Union in its agreement to assist in rebuilding Nepal hit by the earthquake during the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstructions held in two months of the disaster had sought the monitoring of reconstruction works by an independent civil body. A joint meeting among the representatives of Finance Minister, National Reconstruction Authority, TI Nepal and EU agreed to hand this responsibility to the TI Nepal.

The EU has funded Rs 12o million to TI Nepal to carryout monitoring of the reconstruction tasks. Gorkha, Sindhupalchwok, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Okhladhunga, Sindhuli, Kavrepalanchowk, Makwanpur, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur remain as most affected districts. RSS
