While eight Maoist lawmakers are under the scanner, the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi has found another lawmaker applying for a visa by tagging the name of one more person for a tour of Spain. According to sources, the embassy has approached the consular department to verify documents submitted by the lawmaker.
“We cannot provide the names since the case is under investigation,” said the source. Earlier, eight lawmakers were found to be preparing to forge documents of the consular department to take additional persons on their tour of Spain. The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has launched a probe against lawmakers Goma Kunwar, Dor Prasad Upadhyay, Srijana Tamaru Khatri, Santa Kumar Tharu, Rupa Maharjan Shrestha, Ram Maya Bogati, Dil Maya Dhami and Dhana Pahari on charges of document forgery and human trafficking.
The eight lawmakers are learnt to have applied for visa one month ago at the Spanish embassy. Two weeks ago, after the visa section of the embassy found that lawmakers were engaged in illegal activities, they approached the Nepali Embassy. According to sources, the embassy has informed Nepali officials that they are not going to issue visas in the names of the lawmakers before their investigation is over.
