NRA distributes 1st instalment to over 30k families

- Post Report, Kathmandu
The updated NRA list NRA has put the number of total ‘beneficiaries’ eligible to receive rebuilding aid at 533,155

Jul 13, 2016-The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has disbursed the first instalment of Rs 50,000 in rebuilding aid to 30,265 households in 11 quake-affected districts.

The authority has signed tripartite agreements for the distributing of rebuilding aid worth Rs 200,000 with 235,786 households in nine out of 11 districts listed under the most-affected areas from earthquake, besides three districts in Kathmandu Valley.

The updated list released on Tuesday by the NRA has put the number of total ‘beneficiaries’ eligible to receive rebuilding aid at 533,155, including an additional 1,218 households from two rural villages in Lalitpur district.

Until now, the NRA list included earthquake affected households from 11 out of the total 14 districts identified as hardest-hit by the April 25 earthquake last year.

“Now, the affected households from two villages from Lalitpur, identified as rural areas unlike other parts of the Kathmandu Valley have been added on to the list.

The authorities will sign the tripartite agreement to provide rebuilding aid soon,” said Ganesh Raj Osti, chief of the Centre Level Programme Implementation Unit  under the Ministry of Urban Development.

While the verification process of earthquake-affected households has been started in two rural villages in Lalitpur district, the process in other parts of the Valley--considered urban areas--is likely to start from the next week.

“The aid money to the earthquake victims from three districts in Kathmandu Valley has not been released yet. The lack of clarity whether to consider three districts inside the Valley under the same category as 11 other districts for providing rebuilding aid is likely to affect the distribution process,” Osti added.

A total of 98,260 complaints have been lodged by earthquake-affected districts at various district-level offices of the NRA after being left out of the housing reconstruction list prepared by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
