The one year tie-up will see Gurung receive monthly Rs 100,000. The national record holders in multiple events—12 in individual and two in relay—Gurung will additionally get Rs 10,000 each time he breaks a new national record.
The 17-year-old Gurung will wear Bhat-Bhateni imprinted clothing in every tournament he participates in and the Super Market giants can also ask the swimmer to do the commercials for them. Bhat-Bhateni Managing Director Min Bahadur Gurung and the swimmer signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Gurung is one of the seven players in five disciplines to represent Nepal in the Olympic Games slated for August 5-21 in Rio de Jeneiro, Brazil. Athletes Hari Kumar Rimal 5,000m) and Saraswoti Bhattarai (1,500m), swimmers Gaurika Singh 100m backstroke) and Sirish Gurung (100m freestyle), judoka Phupu Lhamu Khatri (below 63kg), taekwondoka Nisha Rawal (Above 64kg) and archer Jit Bahadur Moktan (individual recurve) will represent Nepal in the 31st edition of the Olympics.
Joining the Nepali team as coaches were Ishwor Karki (swimming), Debu Thapa (judo), Deepak Gurung (archery), Puspa Raj Ojha (athletics) and Sangina Baidhya (taekwondo). The National Sports Council member secretary Keshav Kumar Bista is the chef-de-mission of the Nepali delegation to Rio.
Nepali team to Rio also include NOC President Jivan Ram Shrestha, vice-president Jyoti Rana, Secretary General Lama Tendi Sherpa, treasurer Ratan Kumar Tandon and members Nilendra Raj Shrestha, Ashok Ratna Bajracharya, Ramesh Kumar Shrestha, Samim Miya Ansari and Deepak Harsha Bajracharya. Doctor Saroj Krishna Shrestha and NOC staffs Sujan Lal Shrestha and Rajan Shrestha will complete the Nepali team.
IME sponsors sports kits
KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank on Thursday signed a sponsorship deal with Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) to provide sports gears to Nepali players participating in the Rio Olympics.
As per the agreement the bank will provide sports gears—jerseys, t-shirts and tracksuits—to players and officials. Marketing and Business Promotion Head of Global Bank Prasanna Baskota and NOC President Shrestha signed the MoU on Thursday. (PR)
