Locals have agreed to construct earthquake resistant traditional houses in Bidur Municipality 2 and 3, Nuwakot.

Nuwakot Heritage Village (NHV) has started a campaign to build 110 houses preserving the cultural sanctity and historical distinctiveness in these areas. Chairman of the NHV Puskar Rimal said 22 houses will be built in the first phase.

Locals are going to construct “beautiful” quake-resilient homes with locally available construction materials, according to Rimal. “They will spend in around Rs 1.3 to 2.5 million to build a house. The house model has been prepared by the engineers,” he said. 

On Saturday, Secretary of Tourism Ministry Prem Bahadur Rai, Director General of the Department of Archaeology Bheshnarayan Dahal and Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Pokharel inaugurated construction of some houses in the district.

Putali Dangol of Bidur Municipality-3 was pleased to have been building her house preserving their culture and identities. 

Secretary Rai said villagers should preserve their identity and promote tourism for their welfare. “The reconstruction works can help the victims develop tourism industry,” he said. A campaigner Suman Pandey said they have been collaborated to develop Nuwakot as a tourist area. “We will also provide financial help those villagers who cannot construct houses on their own,” said Pandey.
