A 69-year-old Sumitra Khatri of Armala-6 in Kaski has been taking shelter at an old age home after her son and daughter-in-law allegedly forced her to leave the house accusing her of practicing witchcraft.

Karki said she left the house after her son and daughter-in-law thrashed her calling a 'witch'. "I tolerated physical and mental torture for the past four years. My daughter-in-law Basanti had pressured my son to either transfer ownership of the land in her name or sell the land," said Sumitra.

After she refused to transfer the ownership of land, they [son and daughter-in-law] started mistreating with her, according to Khatri.

Khatri said that her son and daughter-in-law did not permit her to meet relatives and neighbors for a long time. "I used to flee home when disputes aroused and returned again later. Now I will never go back," said Khatri.

Khatri was rescued with the assistance of advocate Shova Paudel and sent to Watsyan old age home in the district on Wednesday.

However, Sumitra's son Ram Bahadur claimed that he never treated his mother badly. Ram Bahadur has been working as a security guard at a local school in Pokhara.
