Senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Dr Govinda KC, has begun his 10th fast-unto-death from Sunday.

Dr KC began the hunger strike at 5 pm on Sunday, putting forth a nine-point demand, including cancellation of appointment of Tribhuvan University (TU) Vice Chancellor Trith Raj Khaniya.

Dr KC said he was compelled yet again to resort to hunger strike after TU Executive Council appointed Professor Dr KP Singh as Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IoM) on Sunday. Dr KC has claimed Singh was appointed by breaching the rule of seniority.

Dr KC has firm stand that Prof. Dr Jagadish Prasad Agrawal should be appointed IoM dean based on seniority criteria. He said that if this criterion is breached, appointments at IoM would be based on political distribution and would ultimately favour the agendas of medical mafias.
