The group of Maoist students led by deputy in-charge of the university committee of ANNISU-R, Sushil Khanal, vandalised the office of VC Dr Ram Kantha Makaju, when he was not in the office.
The ANNISU-R had submitted a memorandum to the university authority, drawing the attention towards its disregard for merit during admission in Medical Science and taking arbitrary fees by the colleges affiliated under the university.
KU coordinator of ANNISU-R Achyut Bhatta said they took to vandalism after their demands ignored despite repeated attempt to draw the attention.
“We were compelled to take the harsh step as our demands for reasonable admission fee and transparency were not addressed,” said Bhatta, “We claim the responsibility for the incident.”
A group of 10-15 students barged into the office of the VC Makaju and vandalised the office door, windows, and computer. Police personnel could not arrest the vandals.
Kavre DSP Nabinraj Rajbhai said that they have been searching for the students involved in the vandalism as their identities have been known.
President of KU Professors’ Association Bedmani Dahal condemned the violent incident at an educational institution.
