Joint struggle committee continues general strike in various districts
The joint struggle committee continued its protest against the constitution amendment bill on Saturday as well by enforcing general strike in various districts of province 5. Rupandehi district has come to a grinding halt due to the banda. Major cities and market places in the district have remained shut. Vehicular movement along the east-west highway and Siddhartha highway is nil. Cadres of various political parties affiliated to the joint struggle committee carried out protest rallies in Butwal—the epicenter of the agitation.
Likewise, the general strike has affected normal life in Pyuthan district. Market places, industries, factories could not come into operation due to the banda.
CPN (Maoist centre) co-coordinator Krishna Adhikari said that local leaders from both ruling and opposition parties have joined hands in the protest saying that they will stand against the conspiracy that would disintegrate the nation. The agitation would continue till the bill is revoked from Parliament, said Adhikari.
In Argakhanchi, the three-day general strike called by the joint struggle committee has continued for the second day on Saturday. Transportation service and market places have come to grinding halt in its headquarter Sandikharka.
Demonstrators have resorted to singing and dancing on the roads as a part of their protest to draw government's attention in the district.
Also, Bardiya district is also marred under the general strike jointly called by CPN-UML and Rastriya Janamorcha. Normal life has been affected in the district.
