Sunar becomes fastest man of Nepal

Sunar’s swift finish in the men’s 100m final was the highlight of the day as he screamed “there is no one to beat Yam Sajan” soon after completing the race. Sunar, who had left Nepal Police Club (NPC) one and half year ago, clocked 10.60 seconds to win the race way ahead of Ashish Chaudhary (11.08) of APF and Ananda Devi Chaudhary (11.20) of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) for the gold.
“I am very aggressive and that has helped me to win the race today,” said Sunar who has been ruling the event ever since Tilak Ram Tharu of NPC left Nepal two years ago. Sunar had seen a slide in his game after he had no competitor but now wants to stay focused. “I used to undergo light practice because I was always overconfident to win,” he said.
Chandrakala Lamgade of NPC bettered her own mark in women’s shot put with a throw of 11.56m. She had held a record of 11.4m. Amrita Mahato of TAC and Basanti Chaudhary of NPC finished second and third respectively. Tanka Dahal of TAC threw 13.55m to win the men’s gold beating Pushkal Khadka and Prem Prasad Khadka of NPC.
Krishna Chaudhary of TAC clocked 13.15 seconds to win the women’s 100m gold beating clubmate Durga Devkota (13.20) and Chandra Kala Thapa (13.32) of NPC. Hari Kumar Rimal of TAC won first gold of the Games clocking 4:04 minutes to win the men’s 1500m final, while army also took the women’s gold through Saraswoti (4:05.3 minutes).
TAC also bagged the men’s high jump after Surya Khatri jumped 1.82m. Keshari Chaudhary of NPC won the women’s high jump with a leap of 1.54m to beat Shila Chaudhary (1.53) of APF and Prabha Chaudhary (1.44) of TAC.
APF shoot out NPC
APF defeated departmental archrivals NPC 4-2 in penalty shoot out to win the women’s football gold at the Duhabi Stadium in Sunsari. The match was pushed to tie breaker after both teams were locked goalless at the regulation time. Laxmi Paudel, Manju Dong, Anita KC and Usha Bhandari
converted from the spot with Tara Thing going off the target.
Nirmala Upadhayaya and Amrita Joshi had failed to score in penalties for NPC after Dhim Kumari Gurung and Srijana Khadka were on target. Niru Thapa of NPC was adjudged the highest scorer of the tournament with five goals. In the third place playoff match, TAC edged Central Region 2-1.
In the men’s football league matches in Dharan, Western Region stunned NPC 3-0 with a brace from Anil Gurung and Central Region edged Eastern on a back of a 28th minute strike from Dinesh Henjan.
Bastola’s three-peat
Parshuram Bastola of Nepal APF Club completed a hat-trick of gold as he won in the final of men’s individual kata in Biratnagar on Saturday. In the final at the Shahid Stadium, Bastola got the better of Dambar Bahadur Ale Magar of TAC to underline his domination in the event. He had also clinched gold in the fifth edition in Kathmandu and sixth in Dhangadi. Bastola said he was extremely happy of his achievement. Lalit Khatri of Far West and Suman Pulami Magar of Central were the losing semi finalists. Nirmala Tamang of NPC won the women’s title in the event easing past Apsara Moktan of Central Region. Sarita Shrestha of APF and Barsha Sawad of Far West took bronze.
TAC crush Far West
A star-studded TAC hammered Far Western Region by 87 runs in the men’s cricket at the Baijnathpur ground in Biratnagar. Batting first, TAC piled Games-high 209-3 in 20 overs after Naresh Budhayer struck an unbeaten 81 off 43 balls with five fours and as many sixes. Far West, in reply, were restricted to 122-5. Opener Roshan Nepali top scored with a 53-ball 50 for them hitting five fours and a six.
Apart from Budhayer, Sagar Pun (44), skipper Binod Bhandari (34) and Raju Rijal (22 not out) also contributed run to set TAC on course for a huge total. In another match, NPC overcame Western Development Region by 17 runs.
Batting first, NPC recovered from 67-5 to score 146-5 following an unbeaten 79-run stand between Manjeet Shrestha and Dipendra Airee (28 not out). Shrestha scored a 32-ball 49 not out with three sixes and two boundaries. Western Region were restricted to 129-8 with Sushan Bhari making a 20-ball 32. Lalit Singh Bhandari took three wickets for NPC.
In the women’s cricket in Itahari, Central Region crushed Far West by nine runs and Mid Western Region edged Western Region by two wickets. Central were 59 all out in 17.5 overs but they made a fine comeback bundling out Far West for 50 in 14.5 overs.
In the second match, Western made 72-9 before a 42-ball 43 from Nary Thapa guided Mid West to 73-8 in 18.3 overs. Nary hit five fours and a six.
