The number of ICU bed at Kanti Children's Hospital has been increased from 18 to 52. 

The facility will relieve of the compulsion for the people coming from different parts of the country to visit private hospitals for want of adequate beds in the hospital. 

The facility came into operation following its inauguration by Health Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa on the occasion of 55th anniversary of the hospital on Friday. 

The ICU has 25 beds for newborns, 10 for children aged 28 days to 14 years and 10 for children post-surgery, said the hospital administration. Likewise, two beds will also be available for children suffering from communicable diseases. 

On the occasion, Minister Thapa said the Ministry was working to end the compulsion of patients to return empty-handed for want of hospital beds and doctors. 

Senior paediatrician at the hospital Dr Krishna Poudel said a total of around 700 children from various parts of the country visit the hospital for different diseases on a daily basis, out of them, he said, 70 (10 percent) need to be admitted at ICU. 

Approximately 10 patients have to return without treatment for want of ICU beds in the hospital on a daily basis, he said. The ICU has been set up with financial aid from the government (Rs 50 million) and Japanese Government (Rs 150 million). 

Various services like pharmacy, store, lab, cash counter are available in the same building housing the ICU.  RSS
