An Australian artist Fedrich Grief has donated approximately Rs 2 million worth of food and clothes to the earthquake victims of April 25, 2015.
The donation amount was collected through various cultural programmes he organised in Australia and released to the quake victims through the Frizzey Light Verein Organisation based in Nepal. Quake victims of Sindhu-palchok, Kavrepalanchok, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap and Dolakha have been distributed food and clothes. In Solukhumbhu, Grief distributed foods and clothes to quake survivors going around village to village on foot for a week with the help of 18 local Sherpas.
Organising a press conference here on Tuesday, Grief said he was hopeful that the financial contribution would be of help for the quake victims.
“I am an artist. I have a plan to spend some of my earnings from my profession for impoverished people around the world. I heard about the earthquake in Nepal that left many helpless.
“So, I have come here to help the needy,” said Grief, while also pledging to donate Rs 4 million worth of essentials in Nepal in 2017.
The Verein Organisation is planning to distribute sleeping bags and jackets to 150 households in Solukhumbhu from Wednesday, while a newly constructed building for quake-affected Panchakanya Primary School at Mankha of Sindhupalchok will be handed over on January 28.
