EC releases 16-day schedule for local elections

According to the EC working schedule, the election process will begin on April 29 with candidates registering their nominations in their respective election centres. The final list of the candidates will be published on the same day.
On April 30, complaints can be registered against the candidates. On the same day, the nomination will be examined by the EC.
On May 1, the EC will publish the list of nominated candidates. The election body will give time for candidates to withdraw their candidacy on the same day.
On May 2, EC will publish the final list of candidates and provide them election symbols. "Until May 12, the candidates can spend their time in publicity," said Gopinath Mainali, secretary of EC.
After that, election silence period will be observed for two days during which no party or candidate can engage in publicity until elections are held on May 14.
According to Surya Sharma, spokesperson of EC, the election schedule is very tight because of the time limitation given to the EC during the announcement of election date.
