Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has assured his participation in the Nepal Investment Summit, which will take place in Kathmandu on March 2-3.
In a meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Updhyay, Jaitly
reportedly agreed to attend the summit aimed at improving the investment climate
in Nepal.
Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, during his visit to New Delhi earlier,
had requested Jaitley to attend the summit. “Despite his tight schedule, he has assured us his participation in the summit, which will be a great boost for us,” said Upadhyay.
This will be the first investment summit to be organised in Kathmandu after the promulgation of the constitution in 2015. The summit will provide national and international investors as well as development partners an opportunity to learn about Nepal’s investment scenario, regulatory environment and sectors open for investment. “We are making efforts to ensure broader participation from India,” said Ambassador Upadhyay. Over 300 investors from more than 10 countries and two dozen speakers will take part in the event. Energy and infrastructure, tourism, mines and mineral, and agro-forestry are among the areas of focus.
