Over 2,000 women take part in Pinkathon Ktm
Over 2,000 women participated in Pinkathon Kathmandu on Friday, where they ran marathons under different categories to promote women empowerment and raise awareness about breast cancer. Pinkathon Kathmandu was jointly organised by Leisure Port and Shivam Holiday Group Private Limited and Athletics Association of Nepal.
Kanchi Maya Koju won the 21 km half marathon while Reshu Basnet and Pushpa Bhandari came in second and third. The trio walked with cash prize of Rs 50,000,
Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
Under the 10km race, Shanta Byasi won the competition, Laxmi Pandey and Fulmati Rana trailing behind her, securing the second and the third spots. They won the prize money of Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Pinkathon goodwill ambassador and celebrated Indian model Milind Soman said that Nepali women should free themselves from household activities and should keep the running spirit moving.
Besides the race, the event also organised a zumba session and various musical acts at the Capital’s Dashrath Stadium.
The event organisers said the event was a movement carried forward by a growing community of empowered women.
