SC puts off final hearing on IGP appointment case for Sunday
The Supreme Court (SC) has put off the final hearing on the appointment of Nepal Police Inspector General of Police for Sunday. According to SC Spokesperson Mahendra Upadhyay, a division bench of apex court Justices Iswori Prasad Khatiwada and Tej Bahadur KC on Thursday passed the case to a full bench for hearing on Sunday citing the gravity of the issue.
Earlier, the apex court had issued an interim order staying the implementation of Cabinet decision to promote Jaya Bahadur Chand as Inspector General of Police.
On February 12, the government had decided to promote Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police Chand to the top post of Nepal Police.
Following the government’s decision, Advocate Kapil Dev Dhakal had filed a writ petition on February 10, accusing the government of trying to violate the rule of seniority in the appointment of the police chief.
On February 12, Deputy Inspector General Nawaraj Silwal, the first in line for appointment, moved the SC seeking an interim order to put on hold Chand’s appointment.
