Rastriya Prajatantra Party, a coalition partner in the incumbent government, has registered a constitution amendment bill at the parliament secretariat on Sunday seeking reinstatement of Nepal as Hindu state.
The RPP has proposed to remove the word ‘secularism’ from Article 4, Sub-article 1 of the constitution and replace it with ‘Hindu state with religious freedom’.
The bill has been signed by six RPP leaders including Kunti Sahi and has been registered under non-governmental bill.
The RPP’s move comes days after the Election Commission omitted Hindu state and monarchy from the party’s statute.
