Kathmandu triennale to celebrate the city
Mar 21, 2017-
Siddhartha Arts Foundation made a formal announcement of the Kathmandu Triennale 2017 (KT 2017), an international art fest, amid a programme held at Nepal Tourism Board, in Bhrikutimandap, in the Capital.
Organised jointly by the Siddhartha Arts Foundation and SMAK (Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art Ghent, Belgium), KT 2017 aims to promote Nepali arts and culture, as well as the city of Kathmandu as a cultural hub in South Asia.
The inaugural edition of the fest, KT 2017, is themed The City and is curated by Philippe Van Cauteren. Besides the central show—The City: My Studio / The City: My Life—the fest will see several other
curated expos to be organised concurrently. The second half of KT 2017 is titled Encounters—Encounters are formal and informal exchanges involving participating artists and audiences.
Speaking at the event, curator Philippe Van Cauteren informed, “KT 2017 is an adventurous voyage through a range of means by which artists express themselves: sculpture, painting, installation, video, performance, ready-made objects, drawings, etc. Artists from Nepal are exhibited side by side artists from other cultural and artistic backgrounds and experiences.”
Kathmandu Triennale starts on March 24 and will run through April 9 at several art venues around the town.
