Leader of fringe parties started chanting slogans and boycotted the meeting after Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar gave permission to Chairman of State Affairs Committee of the Parliament Dil Bahadur Gharti to table the Bill related to Amendment and Integrate Laws Related to Political Parties.
CP Mainali-led CPN (ML), Rastriya Janamukti Party (Loktantrik), Nepal Pariwar Dal and Dalit Janajati Party, among other parties, boycotted today’s House meeting.
Speaking at the beginning of the meeting, leaders of the fringe parties said that the government’s decision to secure at least one seat under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system and three percent proportional votes to be recognised as a national party was against the spirit of constitution.
The leaders have also urged the government to roll back its decision at the earliest.
Earlier this afternoon, a sub-committee of the State Affairs Committee of the Parliament had suggested that only the parties securing at least one seat in the FPTP category and at least three percent votes under the Proportional Representation category would get the status of a national party.
