The election body has planned to mobilise around 21,000 volunteers for the local level elections set for May 14. Starting from April 10, the volunteers would mobilised in all 75 districts where they are expected to educate 5.4 million households over a month leading up to the elections. “They will also provided allowance during the training period between March 28 and April 9,” said Navaraj Dhakal, joint secretary at the EC.
He said the EC has set aside Rs350 million for the volunteer mobilisation. Each volunteer is expected to reach out to every household covered by each polling station. They will have to deliver a booklet on Frequently Asked Question (FAQ), a source book, poster and a calendar which will have information about how to cast vote in the local level elections, the EC said.
The posters will be made available in 16 languages, while the FAQ will be printed in five languages which the volunteers will use as per the voters’ preference in the particular areas.
On Sunday, the EC concluded a two-day regional level training programme for 360 trainers who will in turn train 21,000 volunteers.
